Fill this adorable tote bag with sunscreen, beach towel, and other essentials, then head for the beach for an afternoon of fun!

Materials

  • Turquoise tote bag, 13-1/2”
  • DecoArt So Soft Fabric Paint: Sweet Melon, Tangerine, Hauser Light Green, Buttermilk, Lamp Black
  • Blumenthal Lansing Co. Favorite Findings Shellz Buttons: Green, Turquoise, Pink
  • Clear rhinestones, five

Tools

  • DecoArt Fashion Sequins Writer: Orange Blaze, Lime Fizz
  • Aleene’s Jewel-It

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, chalk, transfer paper, paintbrush, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

Print and cut out patterns. (Note: The blue words “chart” and “key” are links. To access these, select the link, then download and print items.) Use chalk and transfer paper to transfer patterns onto tote bag.

STEP 2

On covered work surface, paint: fish body Tangerine, fins and tail Sweet Melon, eye Buttermilk. Let dry. Paint pupil Lamp Black. Paint plants Hauser Light Green. Let dry. Dot eye Buttermilk.

STEP 3

Use paint writers to add Orange Blaze accents on fins and tail and Lime Fizz accents on plants. Let dry.

STEP 4

Position buttons and rhinestones on design in desired pattern. Use jewelry glue to adhere buttons and rhinestones on bag. See photo for guide. Let dry.

  1. Very cute! I especially like the button trims.
    Since I love to sew, my purse would be from scratch. It would have appliques of the fish and seaweed instead of paint and use a zigzag stitch with metallic thread instead of the fabric paint used as accents.
