CHA Week

I love when CHA time arrives because there are always sneak peeks of new products and exciting news being shared. CHA stands for The Craft & Hobby Association, and the two big CHA trade shows each year give manufacturers an opportunity to introduce their new product lines to craft store buyers, independent shop owners, and professional craft designers all in one place. I am thrilled to be sharing some fantastic news here on the Crafts ‘n things blog. Here is the official announcement from Stampendous:

Stampendous is pleased and proud to announce that  we’ve received the license to produce House-Mouse Designs® images as rubber stamps. In addition to our quality wood-mounted stamps, these designs will now be available for the first time in Cling Rubber. Now you can get even more of your favorite images by artist Ellen Jareckie in “easy-to-store” cling stamps. House Mouse images for Fall and Holiday are already winging their way to your local rubber stamping and scrapbooking stores, as well as your favorite online retailers. These images will also be available July 20 on our website at  www.stampendous.com  where your orders are always filled by independent  retailers.

I am lucky enough to be part of the Design Team at Stampendous and had access to some of the new cling stamps being released. I created a few cards to share with you.

My first card is one of the sweet Halloween images. The little mouse in his dinosaur costume is just too cute! I stamped the image in black water-resistant ink. I colored the images using watercolor pencils and a waterbrush. I added a hint of crystal micro-glitter to the candy corn and the scales. I decided to make him look like a dragon with my choice of colors.

I then laid the die template I chose over the image and traced the edges of the die onto either side of both tails. I removed the die template and cut out just the tails with detail  scissors. I folded the tails inside the cutting edge of the die temple and die cut the shape around my colored image. Next, I sponged the side and top edges of the die-cut image with a mix of green and blue dye ink. I sponged brown dye ink along the bottom.

Mount the image onto a brown cardstock panel slightly smaller than the outer edges of the die cut; the brown shows at the corners of the die-cut shape. Mount the layered piece onto green cardstock cut slightly larger than the brown layer.

Cut card base from brown cardstock and layer green cardstock and orange patterned paper on top. Cut a strip of brown cardstock, attach it across the top, and tie with striped twine.

Adhere the image piece to the card with foam dots.

For the second card, I took a Christmas image and turned it into a birthday image.

I stamped the image using black water-resistant ink and colored with watercolor pencils. I added a few polka dots to the packages using a white highlighter, after I had finished blending my colors.

I cut the image into a rectangle and distressed the edges. Next, I mounted the main image onto brown cardstock. Layer onto another layer of white cardstock and distress the edges. Create card base from brown cardstock. Add a layer of white cardstock and distress the edges. Attach chevron background paper over the white cardstock. Tie ribbon with button accessory onto card. Adhere the main image to card with foam dots.
