Susan’s Garden Magnet Board

1. Following MAGPANELS’ instructions and using spray adhesive, cover magnet board with fabric. Wrap fabric to back of board 2″ on all sides, making sure fabric is smooth and taut. Adhere ends at back of magnet board; let dry.

2. Using photo as guide, apply strip of 1/2″ double-sided tape across top of magnet board, 3″ down from the top edge. Cut nine lengths from assorted, non-wired ribbons. Adhere one end of each ribbon length to tape so ribbons are randomly spaced and tails dangle freely.

3. Using photo as guide, create casually hand-pleated band of 1-5/8”-wide wired ribbon and adhere to double-sided tape strip, covering narrow ribbon ends. (Note: Extend ends of pleated ribbon to wrap to back at left and right side of magnet board, same as fabric.) Adhere ends at back of magnet board.

4. Using 1/4″ double-sided tape, attach 5/8″-wide ribbon across pleated band, adhering ends on back of magnet board. Using second strip of 1/4″ double-sided tape, attach 3/8″-wide ribbon to center of 5/8″ ribbon, adhering ends at back of magnet board.

5. Following instructions and supply lists that come with each Sizzix Susan’s Garden die, create realistic paper flowers. Allow time for adhesive to dry. Use Power Tab to adhere each flower to a magnet.

6. Place magnet board into frame. Position magnets in a pleasing arrangement so panel looks interesting when the magnets are not in use. Use magnets to hold photos, tickets, memorabilia, cards, and more.

Tips

  • Magpanels Frame-Sized Magnet Boards come in four sizes that match standard-size frames (5”x7”, 8”x10”, 10”x13” and 11”x14”). Your garden can be smaller than the project sample if you need one that fits in less space.
  • Magnet board looks best when at least two flowers are “parked” along the pleated ribbon band; make plenty of magnets if you want flowers there all the time.
  • The collection of Susan’s Garden flower dies is extensive, with dozens of choices beyond the ones shown. Like in a real garden, you can choose dozens of different varieties or stick to a smaller number of favorites (daisies and roses; nothing but poinsettias; only orchids!).
  • To change the garden each season or for special occasions, attach the ribbons with temporary tape and switch to different flower-topped magnets and ribbons.
  • If you want the option of switching the collection of magnets, but do not want to change the ribbons: Use only tone-on-tone ribbons in shades of white and ivory or another neutral palette.
  • Omit the frame; display on a decorative tabletop easel.
