Quick-and-Easy New Year’s Countdown

Happy 2013! It’s Jill Cornell here today with a quick-and-easy idea to ring in the New Year. My New Year’s Eve celebrations have certainly changed over the years and are now more family-friendly. I created a set of countdown bags to ring in the New Year. You can certainly save this idea for next year or alter it to have family members write down resolutions or goals for 2013 to be pulled out periodically throughout the year. (My project today features the Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic Collection from American Crafts.)

Decorate the outside of each numbered bag as desired. Be sure to include the numbered hours and some fun papers and embellishments, like the Flutterbys Paper Garland shown here.

Inside each bag is a tag with a family-friendly activity such as playing a board game together, lighting a fire and drinking hot chocolate, family storytime, etc. The larger paper bags could also hold a treat or little gifts. A sprinkle of confetti was also added inside each bag. Depending on the ages of your children, you could start the countdown earlier in the day and adjust the number of bags you use accordingly.

Place the confetti in the bag. Add patterned paper or cardstock to a large tag with removable adhesive (this way you can reuse the tags on another project). Write down a family activity on the tag. Tie ribbon in bow on top of tag. Place tags in bags.

The white bags are glassine (a little bit see-through) so the confetti looks pretty through the bag.

Enjoy ringing in the New Year and counting down with your family!
