Love Bear Clay Pot

This Love Bear Clay Pot is not only adorable and cute, but its message is one to spread to all this Valentine’s Day!

Materials

  • Clay pot (body), 2-1⁄2”
  • Wooden ball (head), 3⁄4”
  • Flat wooden shapes: medium circles (ears), 3⁄4”; large ovals (arms), 2”
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: Camel, Country Red, Milk Chocolate, Gooseberry Pink, Honey Brown, Sea Aqua, Cadmium Yellow, Country Blue
  • Blue ribbon, 1⁄4” wide, 3⁄8 yard

Tools

  • Paintbrushes: round, #6, #8; soft round, #3; liner
  • Black fine-tip permanent marker
  • Beacon Adhesives Kid’s Choice Glue

Basic Supplies

scissors, pencil, ruler, masking tape

Love Bear

1. Basecoat body, ears, arms, and head Honey Brown; drybrush Milk Chocolate.

2. Print and cut out patterns. (Note: The blue word “patterns” is a link. To access these patterns, select the link, then download and print items.) Transfer the following: face to head (with bottom of face 1⁄2” from bottom of head), paws to arms, lettering to body, legs to front sides of body.

3. Basecoat muzzle, paws, and heart Camel; top flowers Country Blue; bottom flowers Gooseberry Pink; leaves Sea Aqua. Drybrush cheeks Country Red.

4. Transfer remaining details. Use marker to draw buttonhole stitch and stitch lines around heart, muzzle, paws, and legs. Adhere head and arms to body, and ears to head. Use masking tape to hold pieces in place while drying.

5. Tie ribbon around neck; trim ends.

Snowman Slate

The party’s tonight!!! Frosty just popped in with a friendly reminder about this winter-wonderland bash! Use this memo board to remember important events all season long.

Materials

  • Slate with wooden frame, 6-1/4”x8-1/2”
  • Cork sheet, 12”x12”, 1/8″ thick
  • Plaid Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints: Black, White, Valentine Pink, Berry Red, Harvest Orange, Regency Blue, Nutmeg Brown
  • Plaid fabric with torn edges, 2”x24”
  • Craft sticks, three
  • Toner Icy Silver Fun Wire, 18-gauge, 18” length
  • Snowflake confetti
  • White push pins, two
  • Chalk

Tools

  • Sawtooth hanger
  • Drill with 1/16” bit
  • Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating
  • Black ultra-fine-tip permanent marker
  • Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive

Basic Supplies

sandpaper, soft cloth, toothpick, pencil with new eraser, masking tape, paintbrush

Snowman Slate

1. Drill hole in one corner of frame and in center of each craft stick. Sand lightly; wipe dust with soft cloth.

2. Basecoat frame Regency Blue and craft sticks White. (Note: Tape around inside edges of frame to protect slate from paint.) Use pencil eraser to add large White dots and toothpick to add small White dots as shown.

3. Print and cut out patterns. (Note: The blue word “patterns” is a link. To access these patterns, select the link, then download and print items.) Cut shapes as indicated on patterns. Basecoat head White, nose Harvest Orange, and mittens Berry Red. Drybrush cheeks Valentine Pink; add White dots. Drybrush mitten edges Nutmeg Brown. Transfer details to face and mittens; trace with marker.

4. Place slate on flat work surface with drilled hole at bottom right. Adhere hanger to back of slate. Insert wire through hole from back to front. For snowflake, insert wire through craft sticks; fan out to shape. Curl ½” length at end of wire; pull remaining wire to back. Wind wire back around to front and wrap end around chalk several times.

5. Adhere nose to face, and face and mittens to slate. Wrap scarf around neck. Adhere snowflake confetti to snowflake and tops of push pins. Push one pin into each mitten.

Tip

  • If necessary, adhere cardboard to back of cork sheet for added stiffness.

Raised Leaf Panel Wall Décor

An object of art made from an old window frame and STYROFOAM? Amaze yourself at how easy this technique is – design a variety perfect for each season!

Materials

  • Six-pane wooden window frame, 29-1/2”x30-1/2″
  • Dow STRYOFOAM Brand Foam Sheets, 1” thick, 12”x36”, four
  • Krylon: Make It Stone! Decorative Paint, Travertine Tan; Indoor/Outdoor Spray Paint, Khaki; Primer

Tools

  • Floracraft Styro Cutter
  • Wood putty and putty knife
  • Adhesives: 3M Spray Adhesive for Dow STYROFOAM Brand Foam, duct tape

Basic Supplies

sandpaper, soft cloth, ruler, pencil

Directions

(Note: When using spray paints, work in well-ventilated area.)

1. Remove glass window panes; sand frame. Wipe clean with soft cloth. Fill uneven areas of frame with wood putty. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply primer.

2. Measure window openings; cut six foam rectangles to fit openings. Print and cut out patterns. Transfer patterns to remaining foam sheets; use foam cutter to cut out.

3. Spray frame with three coats of Khaki; let dry. Adhere leaves to foam rectangles. Spray leaf panels with two coats of Travertine Tan; let dry.

4. Tape backside of leaf panels to window pane openings.

While adding charm to your outdoor winter décor, this easy-to-paint snowman will greet your guests with a great big smile!

Materials

  • Black doormat, 18”x24”
  • DecoArt Patio Paints Outdoor Acrylic Paints: Hydrangea Blue, Petunia Purple, Fuchsia, Cloud White, Wrought Iron Black

Tools

  • Round scrubber paintbrushes: sizes #0, #4, #6
  • Posterboard, 18”x24”

Directions

STEP 1

For stencil, print and cut out pattern. Fold poster board in half. Trace patterns onto poster board; cut out.

STEP 2

For snowman, center stencil on mat, aligning bottom edges. Use #6 to stencil snowman edges using Hydrangea Blue. Use circular scrubbing motion to force paint into grooves in mat. Remove template.

STEP 3

Cut out hat cuff section of template. Fit inside snowman outline. Use #4 to stencil upper and lower edges Wrought Iron Black. Paint hat sections Hydrangea Blue. While still wet, highlight Cloud White. Paint pom-pom Petunia Purple; highlight Cloud White. Paint nose and cheeks Fuchsia. Use #0 to paint eyes and smile Wrought Iron Black.

STEP 4

For border, position snowflake stencil as desired. Use #4 to stencil edges Hydrangea Blue. Use #4 and #6 to paint snowflakes Cloud White. Paint Fuchsia and Petunia Purple dots around snowflakes and hat as desired.

Lace Patchwork Sweater

Short bursts of colorful spray paint over a real-lace “stencil” – that’s the secret to transforming an ordinary sweater into a lace-print work of art!

Materials

  • White or ivory fine-gauge sweater
  • Flat lace, wide width, one yard
  • Tulip Fabric Spray Paint, three coordinating colors

Tools

  • Cardboard or shirt board

Basic Supplies

scissors, masking tape, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

Wash and dry sweater without fabric softener. Place on work surface; insert cardboard or shirt board.

STEP 2

Cut lace into different-size pieces. Arrange lace on sweater front as desired. Protect areas not to be painted with masking tape.

STEP 3

Lightly spray one area of sweater with first paint color. Repeat with second paint color, then the third paint color. Repeat until all areas of sweater have been covered. (Note: Allow colors to overlap and blend.)

STEP 4

Remove lace; lay sweater flat to dry. Arrange lace and spray back of sweater in same way as front.

Other Options

  • Make a “lace patchwork” tote bag in same way.
  • Try technique with non-fabric spray paint on note cards or paper.

Snowman Candle Jar

Winter usually brings snow… and soon snowmen will pop up everywhere throughout the neighborhood! Paint this adorable Snowman Candle Jar centerpiece to decorate your table and celebrate the winter season!

Materials

  • Glass items: quart jar, flower pot votive candle holder
  • Wooden teardrop, medium
  • Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic Paints: Black, Tangerine, Antique Rose, Antique White
  • Fabrics: green/tan checked, 1”x24”; green/tan/mauve checked, 6” circle
  • Black felt, 6-1⁄2” circle
  • Pine sprigs, 1”-2” long, six
  • Mauve beaded branches, 2” to 2-1⁄2” long, four
  • Mauve berry pick, 2” long
  • Jute twine, 22” length
  • Votive candle

Tools

  • All-purpose sealer
  • Black permanent marker
  • Liner brush
  • Adhesives: Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue, hot glue gun and sticks

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, pencil, sponge, paintbrush, sandpaper, soft cloth, rubber band

Directions

STEP 1

Wash and dry jar. Use sponge to apply sealer to entire outside surface; let dry. Sponge paint jar rim Black and remaining areas Antique White. Basecoat nose Tangerine. Sand nose edges; wipe dust with soft cloth.

STEP 2

Print pattern; transfer face to jar and details to nose. Drybrush cheeks Antique Rose. Paint eyes, eyebrows, lines under eyes, and mouth Black. Use liner brush to add White highlight strokes to cheeks and to add highlight dots to eyes and cheeks. Use marker to trace nose details.

STEP 3

For base, turn jar upside down. Apply craft glue around jar bottom, 1” from edge. Center fabric circle over jar; position rubber band over circle to gather. Let dry, remove rubber band, and tie twine around fabric. Return jar to upright position.

STEP 4

For hat, apply craft glue around jar rim. Cut 1-1⁄2” circle from center of felt circle. Center circle over jar; position rubber band over circle to gather. Let dry, remove rubber band, and tie fabric strip around felt.

STEP 5

Use hot glue gun to glue pine sprigs, beaded branches, and berries to hat as desired. Insert votive candle into holder and place holder in jar.

Br-rr… it’s cold outside! Paint these fantastically fashionable pajamas to keep your child toasty warm this winter.

Materials

  • Light blue child-sized pajamas
  • Plaid FolkArt Acrylic Paints: Licorice, Orange Poppy, Teal Green, Periwinkle, Wicker White

Tools

  • Plaid FolkArt Textile Medium
  • Plaid Bottle Top Tip Writers (30728)
  • Paintbrushes: #4 flat, #6 round
  • Iron and pressing surface

Basic Supplies

cardboard, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

Print and cut out pattern; transfer to pajama top. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to mix textile medium with paints. Insert cardboard scrap inside pajamas to prevent paint from bleeding through. Use flat brush to paint Wicker White and Licorice checked border.

STEP 2

Use round brush to paint head Wicker White, nose Orange Poppy, hat Teal Green, and scarf Periwinkle. Following manufacturer’s instructions, use bottle top tip writer and Licorice to paint details, outlines, and lettering.

STEP 3

When dry, mix a drop of Licorice with Wicker White to make light gray; spatter paint painted areas of top. Let dry 48 hours; heat set with warm iron.

These four little snow buddies are dressed in their best to greet visitors with a warm winter welcome! 

Materials

  • Dow STYROFOAM Brand Foam Balls, 2-1⁄2”, four
  • Basswood sheet (sign), 1⁄4” thick, 6”x24”
  • Children’s mittens, two each: blue, black
  • Flannel fabric, 6”x12”
  • Buttons, 4-1⁄2” diameter, four each: red, black
  • Black beads (eyes), 3⁄16”, eight
  • Artificial holly berries (noses), four
  • White snowflakes, 3⁄4” diameter, 22
  • Toner Crafts Fun Wire, 18-gauge, 12” length

Tools

  • Plaid Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints: White, Bright Red, Black, Christmas Green
  • Paintbrushes: Round, Series 35-S, #5; Flat, Series 45-S, #8; Shader, Series 15, #12
  • Markers: EK Tools White Woodcraft Marker, black fine-tip permanent marker

  • Drill with 3⁄16” bit

Sign

1. Cut out pattern. Drill holes in sign as shown. Basecoat sign Christmas Green.

2. For faces, basecoat plastic-foam balls White. Drybrush cheeks Bright Red. Adhere noses and eyes to faces. Use black fine-tip permanent marker to draw mouths.

3. For bodies, lightly stuff mittens with fiberfill. Adhere heads to bodies.

4. For scarves, cut four 1-1⁄2”x12” strips from flannel; wrap around necks. Create fringe on short ends of scarves. Adhere two black buttons to each blue mitten and two red buttons to each black mitten.

5. Transfer lettering to sign; trace with white marker and outline with black marker. Thread wire through holes; twist ends at back to secure. Adhere snowmen to sign and snowflakes to bodies and sign.

Directions

STEP 1

Clean mug. Print and cut out pattern; tape to inside of mug.

STEP 2

Paint ribbon Fresh Foliage and stripes Engine Red. Mix equal parts Green Forest and Clear Medium; shade ribbon. Paint stripes and dots Pure Gold. Paint stem Coffee Bean and needles Fresh Foliage. When dry, add Green Forest needles.

STEP 3

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to bake mug.

Wooden Nativity Ornament

A simple Nativity is the perfect ornament gift to help reflect on the true meaning of Christmas!

 

Materials

  • Flat wooden items: small circle; three medium circles; two large circles; large oval; two XXL ovals; XXL triangle; XL star; two mini craft sticks; two craft sticks; five jumbo craft sticks
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: Lemon Yellow, Lamp Black, Sable Brown, Milk Chocolate, Mocha, Orchid, Olive Green, Baby Blue, True Red, White Wash
  • DecoArt Dazzing Metallic Emperor’s Gold Paint
  • Hemp cord, 10” length
  • Raffia, small amount

Tools

  • Permanent markers: black dual-tip (fine and bullet); brown fine-tip
  • Thick craft glue
  • Drill with 3/32” bit

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, paintbrush, small stencil brush, paper plate (for palette)

Directions 

(Note: Adult supervision is needed when using a drill.)

1. Drill hole in one point of star. For stable, adhere jumbo craft sticks together side-by-side with ends even; adhere regular craft sticks to back at an angle for support. Let dry. Paint star Lemon Yellow, stable Milk Chocolate, triangle (stable top) Sable Brown, mini craft sticks (roof) Lamp Black, small and two medium circles (faces) Mocha, large oval (blanket) Baby Blue, one XXL oval (Mary’s robe) Orchid, remaining XXL oval (Joseph’s robe) Olive Green, remaining medium circle and large circles (halos) Emperor’s Gold. See photo. Drybrush cheeks on each face True Red; add White Wash highlight dots. (Note: To drybrush, dip stencil brush into paint, stroke on paper towel until almost dry, and brush surface in a circular motion.)

2. Refer to photo to add accent lines. Use bullet tip of black marker to dot eyes and brown marker to draw hair. (Note: Draw longer hair on sides of face for Mary.) Use fine tip of black marker to outline star, stable top, stable, halos, blankets, and robes; draw star rays, halo rays, blanket, and robe lines as shown.

3. To assemble the ornament, refer to photo. For Jesus, adhere small face to one end of blanket and medium halo to back. Adhere medium faces to front of one end of Orchid robe (Mary) and Olive Green robe (Joseph); adhere halos to back. Adhere Mary and Joseph to stable, 3/4” from bottom and 1/4” apart. Adhere Jesus to Mary as shown. Adhere stable top to stable, roof pieces to top and at each side of stable top, and star to center top of roof. (Note: Drilled hole of star should be at center top.)

4. Cut several strands of raffia into 1” lengths; adhere to bottom of stable. For hanger, thread hemp cord through star hole and knot ends together.
