Basic Supplies

paper trimmer, detail scissors, ruler, pencil, sponge dauber, non-stick craft sheet

Directions

STEP 1

Make 5”x7” side-fold card from brown Posy Patch paper.

STEP 2

Cut 4-3/4”x6-3/4” panel from ivory Posy Patch paper; sponge edges with Creamy Brown ink and adhere to card front.

STEP 3

Cut 4-3/4”x6-3/4” panel from pink Posy Patch paper. Use Creamy Brown ink to stamp Burlap Background image. Stamp Creamy Brown Agape Love circle image in upper right corner of panel. Randomly stamp circle onto panel several more times without re-inking.

STEP 4

Gently tear paper inside stamped circle as shown, curling edges outward, to create opening for sentiment; sponge torn edges with Creamy Brown ink. Place panel on card and lightly mark sentiment placement through opening; set aside. Stamp Dark Brown sentiment on ivory paper inside opening area; adhere torn panel to card.

STEP 5

Die cut largest Corner Blossom shape from white cardstock; detail cut around flower design. Die cut Timeless Amour lattice heart from black cardstock. Set shapes aside.

STEP 6

Cut 12” seam binding length and place on non-stick craft sheet. Spray seam binding with Iridescent Gold, Wheat Fields, and Cherub Pink Glimmer Mist; let dry. Tie seam binding into double bow. Set aside.

STEP 7

Using Dark Brown ink, stamp several of each size of Vintage Floret images onto cream cardstock. Stamp several Dark Brown Leaf Medley leaves onto light moss green cardstock. Die cut stamped images using coordinating Vintage Floret and Foliage dies. Sponge all edges Pastel Pink.

STEP 8

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to shape florets and leaves using flower molding mat and stylus. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF0ka1vdK7Q to view a video on how to shape and assemble the florets.

STEP 9

Adhere lattice die cut to card as shown. Cluster and adhere florets and leaves to card over lattice, saving one large floret. Adhere bow to floral cluster.

STEP 10

Adhere white flower die cut to back of remaining floret. Adhere to card. Insert stick pin between layers of floral cluster.

Tip

  • Using a hot glue gun will help shape the florets quickly.

Introducing Inspired by Stamping

Welcome to the Crafts ‘n things Blog! Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to Inspired by Stamping! I have been on the Inspired by Stamping design team since February 2013. This small “home grown” stamp company is based out of Brisbane, Australia. I have been enjoying working with their stamps and dies and wanted to share more about them with all of you.

Joanna Munster is the owner/designer/illustrator of Inspired by Stamping. Here is what she had to say about her company.

I started crafting 11 years ago when I started capturing my daughter’s special moments with scrapbooking. I quickly fell in love with all things crafty including cross-stitch, crocheting, knitting, drawing, and jewelry-making. However my love has always been towards the paper crafty industry. It is a place where I can lose myself in creating for hours.

Two and half years ago, my husband, myself, and our three children moved from the United States to Australia. While waiting for my working visa, I started drawing and paper crafting full-time with my blog. One of my dear friends suggested that I make a stamp set with one of my drawings and this is where Inspired by Stamping started. I love every moment of working in this industry, from the beautiful women and men that I meet daily, to the amazing designs that I see created with an Inspired by Stamping set. On October 15th, 2012, we celebrated our first year of Inspired by Stamping, and it is exciting to say that we are growing and expanding!

I want to share some of the beautiful Inspired by Stamping stamps and dies with you.

I love flowers, and this beautiful rose from the “Flowers Bloom” set is stunning.

I stamped the image and colored it with alcohol markers, then trimmed it out with circle die cuts. I added a sentiment from the “Beautiful Iris” set.

The flower image from the “Beautiful Iris” set is also very pretty. I again stamped it and colored it with alcohol markers.

I die cut part of the image with a circle die template, however, I also used micro-tip scissors to “fussy cut” part of the flower. This is a fun technique for showcasing images.

For this card I used images from the NEW April Release. The “Creative Tags” set was just released yesterday and goes on sale at the Inspired by Stamping store April 10th!

Inspired by Stamping also makes die templates to match some of their stamp sets. I stamped an image from the “Flowers Bloom Set” and colored it with alcohol markers.

I then die cut the image with the matching “Fancy Label Dies 1″ template.

Basic Supplies

Directions

STEP 1

Make 6”x4” White side-fold card. Cut slightly smaller Cute Cuts paper panel; adhere to card with patterned side up.

STEP 2

Adhere chipboard elephant sticker to left side of card. Adhere flag to card above trunk, tucking pin end behind chipboard.

STEP 3

Tie small twine bow and adhere to elephant’s ear using clear mini dot.

STEP 4

Stamp Tuxedo Black sentiment at lower right. Adhere three pearls beneath sentiment.

Tip

  • Using a 6” or 8” square of patterned paper, transform this same design into a quick mini album cover.

French Vintage Birdhouse

This project reminds me of spring, which is nice since the weather hasn’t been very spring-like where I live. Alice Golden with you today to revisit one of my favorite projects. This French Vintage Birdhouse was featured in the Crafts ‘n things March 2012 newsletter. (Have you subscribed to the weekly newsletter yet? If not, you can sign up for free HERE).

Many of the papers and elements on this birdhouse are actually digital images that I printed onto matte photo paper. Because the papers weren’t the exact size I needed, I decided to cut them into random sized squares, ink the edges, and adhere them to the roof like they were shingles. Some of them were also sprayed with a glitter spray.

I love the extra bit of shimmer the glitter adds.

This was also the first time I ever used iCraft adhesive. I had been given a prototype to try out and in fact, it was so new that when I submitted this project, the adhesive didn’t even have a name. Here iCraft was cut into a scalloped design and trimmed to fit the edges of the roof and then sprinkled with glitter.

 Another one of my favorite products was employed to create the “straw” – Scrapper’s Floss. Some is poking out of the doorway

and also tucked in around the edges. When my husband and I bought our fixer-upper almost 20 years ago, there was on old pear tree in the backyard that had a similar shaped birdhouse hanging from one of its branches. Unfortunately, a few years after we moved in the tree had to be taken down, but I salvaged the old birdhouse and it still has wisps of straw poking out in similar spots.

Butterfly Acrylic Pendant

Materials

  • Grafix Clear Adhesive Backed Film, 8-1/2”x11”
  • Digital butterfly image
  • Clear acrylic flat-backed crystal
  • Black leather cording, 18”-24” length
  • Silver jump ring, 9mm

Tools

  • Computer and printer
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Hand drill with small bit or heavy-duty hole punch

Basic Supplies

scissors, pencil, copy paper

Directions

STEP 1

Crop image in photo editing program to match size of crystal. Add desired text to image. Flip photo horizontally to create mirror image.

STEP 2

Paste image into word processing program and size photo slightly larger than size of pendant. Print test image on copy paper. Place crystal over image to check size; adjust image size if necessary. Print image onto sheet of Computer Grafix Adhesive Backed Film; let dry.

STEP 3

Place flat side of crystal over image. Trace around crystal with pencil and cut out. Trace around crystal again on blank space on adhesive sheet; cut out.

STEP 4

Remove backing from image and adhere to back of pendant; do not burnish.

STEP 5

Remove backing from clear piece; adhere over image. Lightly burnish both pieces using finger.

STEP 6

Drill or punch hole and insert jump ring at top of pendant; close jump ring.

STEP 7

Cut cording to desired length; thread through jump ring. Knot cording ends together.

Quilled Flower Cards

Send a bouquet of paper quilled flowers to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

Materials

  • Cardstock: light pink, light purple, white
  • Quilling paper, 1⁄8” wide: light pink, bright pink, light purple, bright purple, light green, bright green

Tools

  • Quilling needle tool
  • Fiskars Decorative-Edge Scissors: Pinking, Scallop
  • Fiskars Rotary Cutter and Scoring Blade
  • Circle template
  • Green fine-tip permanent marker
  • EK Success 2-Way Glue Pen

Basic Supplies

paper trimmer, ruler, pencil

Directions

(Note: Both cards are made in same way. Instructions for “The Earth Smiles in Flowers” card are indicated in parentheses.)

1. Cut 5-1⁄2”x8-1⁄2” rectangle from light pink (light purple) cardstock. Use pencil to draw line down center to make two 4-1⁄4”x5-1⁄2” rectangles. Use rotary cutter, ruler, and scoring blade to score line. Fold in half. Draw stitch-line border as shown.

2. Use scalloped-edge scissors to cut 3-3⁄4”x5” rectangle from light purple (light pink); mat to card front. Draw stitch-line border as shown. Use pinking scissors to cut 3-3⁄8”x4-5⁄8” rectangle from white cardstock. Draw stitch lines and lettering with marker as shown. Mat to light purple (light pink) rectangle.

3. Read How to Quill tutorial below. Print quilling template. (Note: The blue words “quilling template”  are a link. To access this, select the link, then download and print template.)

4. For flowers, roll tight 5⁄8” circle. Press one edge of each side inward to form flower tops (Figure 1). Glue flowers to stems as shown.

5. For leaves, cut light green and bright green strips in half lengthwise. Roll 1⁄2” circles. To form marquise, pinch opposite sides into points (Figure 2). Glue leaves to stems as shown.

How to Quill

1. To quill, slightly moisten one end of strip. Place moistened end against index finger and pointed end of quilling needle tool on top of moistened end. Place thumb on top of tool. With paper and tool between index finger and thumb, roll paper around tool, keeping edges of strip even.

2. Remove paper from tool. Place roll in template, allowing coils to expand and fill circle. Remove roll from template; glue end to roll.

Oil Pastel Background

Sue Czosek here today with an artsy, easy background technique for stamped designs. I have this lovely box of Karat Oil Pastels from STAEDTLER in all the beautiful colors of the rainbow. I decided to pull a few of the summery colors and create a sunny card.

1. Color different areas on white cardstock using the oil pastels.

2. Using a sponge in a circular motion, blend the colors together.

3. Die cut multiple butterflies from white cardstock to create masks. Adhere masks to the pastel background using removable tape.

4. Using Ranger Acrylic Paint Dabber, smear white acrylic paint over butterflies; carefully remove masks.

5. Stamp sentiment onto pastel background using Crimson ink.

6. Stamp agapanthus flowers along the bottom using Crimson ink. This stamp image contains both solid and outline images. Color in outline flowers using yellow oil pastel.

7. Highlight letters and flowers with a white gel pen. Let ink dry.

Easter Sheep

For a fantastic last-minute decorating idea, create this Easter sheep with your kids and fill with flowers, candy, eggs, and grass for an adorable Easter dinner centerpiece.

Materials

  • Recycled box
  • White cardstock or construction paper
  • White curling ribbon
  • Wiggle eyes, two
  • Blue/white checked ribbon, 6” length
  • Silver bell, 1⁄2”
  • White cord, 4” length

Tools

  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: White Wash, Baby Blue
  • Black markers: fine-tip, medium-tip
  • API The Ultimate! Glue

Basic Supplies

scissors, paintbrush, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

Cut off top of box to desired height. (Note: Box height should be a minimum of 5-1/2” tall.) Round top edge with scissors.

STEP 2

On covered work surface, paint inside of box Baby Blue and outside White Wash. Let dry. Using fine-tip marker, outline rounded edges on top of box.

STEP 3

Print and cut out pattern. (Note: The blue word “pattern” is a link. To access this pattern, select the link, then download and print pattern.) Using fine-tip marker, draw outline and nose on head. Adhere wiggle eyes to head. Fold back flap on head and adhere to front of sheep.

STEP 4

Tie ribbon bow. Thread cord through bell and tie around bow’s center. Adhere bow with bell under head.

STEP 5

Cut curling ribbon into 3” lengths and curl using edge of scissors. Adhere pieces to sheep.

STEP 6

For legs, cut four 2-1/2”x3” strips from white paper. Use medium-tip marker to draw line on one long edge (hoof) of each strip. Roll strips into 3⁄4” tubes (legs) and adhere closed. Using scissors, make 1/4” snips around top edge of tube (side opposite of hoof) and fold paper down to create tabs for adhering to bottom of box. Adhere legs to bottom of sheep with black line on bottom for hooves.

Tips

  • Young kids can paint the sheep while you cut and curl ribbon. All they’ll have to do is glue!
  • Use a paper plate as a palette for paint or as an easier way for little kids to apply glue. Just give them a sponge scrap and have them blot glue onto ribbon ends.
  • Try cloud decorative-edge scissors to round the box top!

Another idea…

  • Pack your sheep with small travel items, candy, a deck of cards, mini perfume bottles, and other small gifts. Deliver to your local nursing home or to a local shut-in in your neighborhood!

Mini Easter Basket Favors

Use a cute die set to craft mini baskets and boxes for all occasions. Lattice insert and optional handle provide many options.

Materials

  • Cardstock scraps: yellow, teal, purple, light purple, olive green
  • Purple polka-dot or glitter paper
  • Flower brads
  • Easter grass
  • Candy filler of choice

Tools

  • Die-cutting system
  • Lifestyle Crafts Basket Die DC0458
  • Paper Source Stamps: Bunny Standing, Easter Egg Decorated Scallop
  • Clear embossing ink pad
  • White detail embossing powder
  • Gel ink pens, assorted colors
  • Adhesives: Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue, low-tack tape, foam tape

Basic Supplies

paper trimmer, detail scissors, ruler, pencil, fine-tip tweezers, paper piercer, heat tool

Directions

Size

Size is 2-1/2”x2-1/2”x2” (without handle)

Favors

1. Place basket and handle dies on base cutting plate. Insert lattice dies into basket die template, if desired, and secure with low-tack tape to prevent shifting. For variety, die cut lattice on two sides or all four sides of basket.

2. Die cut basket and handle. Remove shapes from machine and use tweezers to remove any stray cut-outs.

3. Fold basket as indicated and adhere sides together; let dry.

4. Adhere handle ends inside top of basket on opposite sides, or attach handle using flower brads. Use paper piercer to poke holes for brads to prevent tearing.

5. Stamp bunny image onto yellow cardstock; heat emboss with white powder. Stamp and emboss egg images onto assorted cardstock scraps. Color images with gel pens as desired; let dry.

6. Detail cut images. Adhere images to baskets with foam tape, or place inside with grass and candy filler.

Tip

  • Spread a rainbow of color across your Easter table. Make each favor basket a different color, or replace candy with colored eggs.
