Cocoa Daisy Kit Club & Giveaway

Hello Crafts ‘n things friends! It’s Jill Cornell with you today, and I am continuing my blog series where I interview a kit club owner. It’s a great way to learn more about these scrapbooking and paper crafting clubs plus have the opportunity to win that month’s kit!

Today, we’re going to meet Christine Drumheller, the owner of Cocoa Daisy.

1)      When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

Cocoa Daisy was founded about seven years ago by Tricia Canonico. I first joined Cocoa Daisy, as a subscriber, in 2007.

I tried out when Cocoa Daisy had a Design Team call, made the team, and about six months later, Tricia asked me to start creating the project kits. I loved coming up with ideas for the project kits and putting them together! Soon I was joining Tricia on her trips to CHA, so I got a good idea of how much work goes into putting together the main kit. Well, fast forward to 2010. I found myself having to leave my marriage of 11 years, with no work history for the last eight because I’d been a stay-at-home mom. At that time, Tricia happened to be pregnant, moving to another state, and planning to close things down here at Cocoa Daisy. I approached her and said I wanted to do it! I was terrified… leaving a marriage, moving in with my parents, and starting a business all at the same time. That was the worst, most stressful summer of my life! But, I knew I had to give it a try because it was the perfect scenario for me. I’d be doing something I love and I’d also be home with the boys.

My background in graphic design from before I became engaged, including 10 years’ experience as a Composition Manager, gave me the confidence to jump in and pray that God had placed this opportunity in front of me for a reason.

It’s been an amazing three years! Learning as I go, always trying to make changes and improvements, working to get the kits out on time and to give my 100% to customer service has been more than stressful at times, BUT I wouldn’t change a thing!

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

Yes, we offer subscriptions! We offer 6 month subscriptions to our Main kit, which is more for the traditional paper crafter/scrapbooker, we offer a Day in the Life kit subscription for those that enjoy working in a project life style format and we also offer a Stamp subscription which is the perfect accompaniment to our other subscriptions or for anyone who enjoys stamping. We also offer a 3 month subscription option, where you can sign up for 3 months by paying for all three months in advance with no auto renewal. It’s a great option for those wishing to give a kit club a try or if you are concerned about committing for 6 months.

When you sign up for a subscription you are guaranteed the monthly kit, early access to any add-ons or special project kits and all your add-on purchases will ship free with your subscription. We are also running a special promotion right now, subscribe to either the Main kit or Day in the Life kit and receive a free “Orion” or “Milky Way” November add on. New subscriptions will begin with the November kit.

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

Yes! You can purchase the main kit or the Day in the Life kit as a single purchase. You can also purchase any of the stamps from our Stamp Subscription as single purchases.

Here is an example from Christine Drumheller:

4) Do you ship internationally?

Yes we do, Main kit shipping to Canada is $13.50 all other international is $20.00; Day in the Life kit shipping to Canada is $9.00 all other international is $14.50

5) Do you offer add-ons?

Yes. Every month we offer two main add-ons and a patterned paper add-on that coordinate with the Main and Day in the Life kits. Our Day in the Life kit can also be ordered as an add-on. We offer a monthly Project Art kit add-on for those that enjoy mixed media/art journaling. Occasionally we offer special project kit add-ons, like this month we have a Christmas Day in the Life kit to help you record your Holiday moments in the project life format and we also have a Document December mini album kit.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

Every Main kit has 8-9 sheets of patterned paper, 4 sheets of cardstock, 1-2 alphabets and lots of embellishments! Rather than include just a couple full packs of embellishments we prefer to create goodie bags for each kit with a wider range of embellishments.  Each kit also includes a 3×4 custom letterpress card and stamp or stamp set.

Every Day in the Life project life kit has 12 exclusive cards designed by Stephanie Wheeler, 12 cards designed by Eve from Evalicious, 4-6  4″x6″ cardstock and/or lined cards, exclusive stamp set, flair, wood veneer, two 3″x4″ letterpress cards, at least one alpha sheet, and various other embellishments.

Here is a card example from Christine Drumheller:

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?
Our kits are very cohesive and being the mom of boys I try very hard to make sure that each month’s kit is “gender neutral”. The paper and embellishments can work together in a number of different ways which gives our kits great versatility. The other thing that sets us apart is our excellent customer service. I value each and every one of my customers and strive to give them the consideration and service that I would expect. People work hard for their money and I want to make sure they feel good about spending it at Cocoa Daisy. I want each customer to enjoy opening their Daisy box when it arrives on their doorstep :)

Yes, we have exclusives! In fact this month’s kit includes the most exclusives we have ever had in a kit. We are now designing our own patterned paper and each kit has two sheets of exclusive Cocoa Daisy paper in it, we have an exclusive 3″x4″ beautiful letterpress card, flair (this month it is from Panda 8 Designs), a set of page tabs from Evalicious, wood veneer, stamp set, and this month we even have a gorgeous 6″x6″ custom stencil from Crafter’s Workshop which coordinates perfectly with the kit.

Here is a look at the Day in the Life kit:

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, project lifers, card makers, altered and mixed media artists?)

We have something for everyone! Our Main kit can really be used for everything but is primarily for those who choose to scrapbook in the traditional format. Our Day in the Life kit is perfect for anyone who prefers to scrapbook in a project life format. For our mixed media customers we offer a Project Art Starter kit, perfect for anyone wishing to pursue art journaling (the Starter Kit even includes admission to Ronda Palazarri’s introduction to art journaling class) and then each month we offer a different Project Art add on. And for card makers and stampers we offer either a stamp subscription which includes three different stamp or stamp sets each month.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

We have an amazing design team! We have design team members that create in all these styles; clean and linear, messy and artsy, lots of layers, project life, art journaling, mini books, a little bit of everything really. We always post lots of great ideas on our blog, Facebook, instagram and of course on our message boards. In fact, we just had our annual online crop this last weekend and the Design Team out did themselves with all the challenges, examples and classes that were posted. You can check out the challenges and classes here.

More Kit Clubs and Giveaways

Hello Crafts ‘n things friends! It’s Jill Cornell with you today, and I am continuing my blog series where I interview two kit club owners. It’s a great way to learn more about these scrapbooking and paper crafting clubs plus have the opportunity to win that month’s kit!

First, let’s meet Noel Fabbri, the owner of Noel Mignon – with fabulous monthly scrapbooking and Project Life-style kits.

1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

I started making kits in the Fall of 2006, so it has been seven years now. At the time, I had three little boys at home (my oldest son was 5 and my twins were 3). I had been immersed in all things “baby” for years and found myself really missing adult interaction, and my job, which I had left upon the birth of my oldest son in 2001. After interacting in the online forums of many of the larger scrapbook sites, I decided at first to just open a small online shop, carrying the lines that I most liked to work with. I am lucky that my husband is a “tech guy”, so he built a website for me, I got all my business paperwork taken care of, and off I started on my journey. Scrapbook kits were just emerging at the time, and so I thought I would have a go at that, and seven years later…here we are. The process of designing the kits has really become a passion for me and one that I thoroughly enjoy each and every month!

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

Currently, I offer 6-month subscription spots for my large, monthly kit. The monthly fee also includes USPS priority shipping, or an $11.50 credit toward international shipping per month. Subscription spots for the January–June kits are currently open, and can be secured HERE

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

I always hold a handful of kits each month, for anyone who wants to pick one up.

Here is an example from design team member, Virginia Tillery:

4) Do you ship internationally?

Yes

5) Do you offer add-ons?

I currently offer a smaller Project Life-type kit each month, which coordinates with the colors and themes I have working in the big kit. I also occasionally offer a class kit, which I also currently have available. This class is a Halloween Mini Album kit/class hosted by our DT member Cassandra Cyr.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

BIG…lol!  My kits always have 20 pieces of patterned paper with 5 matching cardstock sheets. I always include one Thickers alphabet, and one smaller cardstock-type alpha. While I do not have my own stamps (which seems to be a trend), I always include a set from the top designers (Amy Tangerine, Dear Lizzy, Jenni Bowlin, etc…). I also like to incorporate a “staple” item each month, be it a mist, an ink, a pen…, items that you can add to your arsenal of scrap tools. I include lots of embellishments each month, from ribbon, to stickers, to washi tape, to enamel dots. My embellishment list is usually comprised of 20-25 items, and I like to have it vary from month to month, so the kits don’t feel like a rerun of the last one.

Here is an example from design team member, Julie Bonner, using the Union Square kit:

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

I would say the size and value of the kits is what sets me apart. I am also going to say the way I coordinate items. I have gotten lots of very nice emails and notes about the way I put them together, which I think sets my kits apart from the others. I think they are the perfect way for people who live in an area without a great LSS (local scrapbook store), or who just don’t have time to get out to the store, to have a beautiful box of supplies arrive at the door and to be assured that the one kit they purchase from me is going to be more than enough to last until the next one arrives.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, project lifers, card-makers, altered and mixed media artists?)

I seem to be geared most towards the tried-and-true 12″x12″ scrapbooker. The people who love to crop and just want to grab their kit bags and know they can make 15 LO’s (or more) with their one kit. . . although, the kits are very versatile, and they lend themselves beautifully to mini album making. You will always have leftovers, which are perfect for whipping up some cards. There is really more than enough included to choose your own path with the supplies.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

Yes, I have a wonderful design team and have always been very lucky with the designers who have agreed to share their talents while using my kits. Currently, my team is comprised of Virginia Tillery, Julie Bonner, Gretchen McElveen, Veronica Milan (Chic Tags), Cassandra Cyr, and Christie Engel Welch (Two Chicks Designs).

Here is an example from design team member, Gretchen McElveen:

Next, let’s meet Trina Craig, owner of Citrus Twist Kits, and get to know more about her monthly scrapbooking and “Pocket Life” kits.

1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

I started Citrus Twist Kits in May 2012. I come from a long line of female artists and after my mom passed away in January of 2012, the idea for CTK was born. We both shared a love of scrapbooking.

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

We offer our Main and PL kits as subscriptions. Our minimum length subscription is 3 months. The Main kit is $32.50 per month for a 3-month subscription and $30.50 per month for a 6-month subscription (plus shipping). The PL kit is $18 per month, plus shipping. We call our PL kits “Pocket Life.”

Here is an example from Citrus Twist Kits’ design team:

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

Our Main kit is offered as a one-time purchase at $35 (plus shipping). Our PL can be purchased one time as a past kit, if we have past kits in inventory.

4) Do you ship internationally?

Yes. All international shipping is $19. Subscribers can include add-ons and store items in with their kit shipment at no additional shipping cost.

5) Do you offer add-ons?

Yes! We offer 1 coordinating patterned paper add-on, a solid paper add-on, an embellishment add-on (1 for scrapbookers and 1 for PL’ers), and a full kit add-on. All the kits coordinate with the Main and PL kits, except for the full kit add-on.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

Our typical main kit has 8 sheets of patterned paper and 4 solids, plus lots of embellishments. We offer great value for the amount of product our subscribers get. Our typical PL kit features a 6″x6″ paper pad plus lots of other goodies.

Here is an example from Citrus Twist Kits’ design team:

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

Our customer service is top notch. We love to give the kind of customer service that makes people happy. We also offer exclusives including flairs, stamps, wood veneer, PL cards, and a special, handcrafted vintage embellishment included in with each main kit.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, project lifers, card-makers, altered and mixed media artists?)

We do appeal to a wide range of papercrafters, including card-makers. Many of our subscribers get both the main and PL kits together.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

We have a 12-person design team of which almost half are international. They play with our kits and give our blog readers and their own blog readers lots of inspiration with the art they create with their kits.

Here is an example from Citrus Twist Kits’ design team:

Another Look at Kit Clubs

Hello Crafts ‘n things friends! It’s Jill Cornell with you today, and I am continuing my blog series where I interview two kit club owners. It’s a great way to learn more about these scrapbooking and paper crafting clubs, plus you have the opportunity to win that month’s kit!

First, let’s meet Kimber McGray, who coordinates The Card Kitchen, to find out more about her fabulous card kit.

1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

September 2011. The kit club is owned by the owner of Jillibean Soup, Jill Yegerlehner. We saw a large need for a card kit club. With so many scrapbook kit clubs, we felt that it would be great to have another type of kit offering.

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

Yes, we offer subscriptions for $22.99+$5.25 for priority shipping. The customer receives a kit mailed to their home. We have a 6-month commitment from the customer for the subscriber rate.

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

Yes, we offer a one-time purchase option for $24.00+ $5.25 for priority shipping. The customer that wants to purchase a one-time kit can only purchase after all subscriptions have been accounted for. You have the chance of missing out on a kit if it sells out via subscriptions.

4) Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we do ship internationally at the current rate for shipping. No additional fees.

5) Do you offer add-ons?

Yes, we offer add-ons. A customer can order anything from the Jillibean Soup retail store and have it shipped with their kit for no additional shipping fee.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

We do not include cardstock. We include 8 card bases and 8 envelopes, usually 8 sheets of 12″x12″ pattern paper. Many different stickers, die-cuts, buttons, ribbons, tags, embellishments to coordinate with the kit.

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

We do not usually do exclusives, but we have done a few exclusive die-cut items in past kits. We offer color photos plus instructions on how to create 8 cards with the kit and only the kit. We make sure that we don’t add items to our final projects so the customer can see what they can really make with the kit.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, project lifers, card makers, altered and mixed media artists?)

We mainly appeal to card makers, but a scrapbooker or project lifer could easily use this kit for their projects.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

We have myself (Kimber McGray) and Amy Sheffer work with the kit each month plus one guest designer. We have a website and blog that we post to daily for inspiration.
http://jillibeansoup.typepad.com/thecardkitchen/blog_index.html. Here are a couple examples using the August kit from Amy Sheffer.

1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

I started Gossamer Blue in August 2012. It’s something I had wanted to do for many years. I love this industry and it has been a dream of mine to work for myself doing what I love most.

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

We have two subscriptions. One is a scrapbooking kit subscription complete with 12″x12″ papers and embellishments and the other is a Life Pages kit subscription complete with 3″x4″ and 4″x6″ journaling cards and embellishments perfect for creating with divided page protectors. Each subscription includes exclusive Gossamer Blue products, including papers, journaling cards, and stamps, which I’m very excited about. The graphic designers are amazing and they really help make the kits special each month.

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

I do offer a one-time purchase. This is dependent on if kits are left over for the month.

4) Do you ship internationally?

I do. I ship all over and it is very exciting to read international blogs and see Gossamer Blue kits in use in other countries.

5) Do you offer add-ons?

There are three core add-ons each month; a main kit add-on, an add-on #2, and a Bits & Pieces add-on. The first two are additional traditional scrapbooking supplies and include exclusive papers and products. The Bits & Pieces add-on always includes a 6″x6″ paper pad and a stamp set and is geared toward card makers and divided page protector scrapbookers. Starting in October, there will be add-ons for the Life Pages kit, as well.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

The Main kit has 10 sheets of patterned paper, including 3 exclusive papers, 4 sheets of cardstock, an exclusive stamp set manufactured by Elle’s Studio, alphabets and full packs of embellishments. The Life Pages kit includes 24 exclusive 3″x4″ cards, 6 exclusive 4″x6″ cards, an exclusive stamp set manufactured by Elle’s Studio, embellishments and alphabets.

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

We have exclusive patterned papers, stamps and journaling cards. Both subscriptions include a set of cut files and a printable, both designed to coordinate perfectly.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, project lifers, card makers, altered and mixed media artists?)

Yes. I believe the kits appeal to a broad range. There scrapbookers, project lifers, card makers, and art journalers as members.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

The design team is amazing! There are two teams; one for the Main kit and one for the Life Pages kit. There is a full gallery each month and each team member creates a blog post using the kits. We have challenges each month and even have a special album challenge for members where they can earn a free album! That’s a great incentive to use up kits!

A Closer Look at Kit Clubs

Hello Crafts ‘n things friends! It’s Jill Cornell with you today, and I have a very exciting series that I am going to be starting here on the Crafts ‘n things blog and today is our kick-off! For the next few months, I am going to be highlighting a couple of scrapbooking and paper crafting kit clubs, and each club is going to give away that month’s kit!

First, let’s meet Tina Walker, owner of Frog Dog Studio, and get to know more about her fabulous mixed-media kit.

 1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

Frog Dog Studio was started in June 2013, so we are ‘the new kid on the block.’ I started Frog Dog Studio because I love creating art and I love to show others how to make pretty things. I believe that everyone has the ability to create, yet may be afraid to try. One of the main goals of Frog Dog Studio is to show others how to create with video and photo tutorials. I want the world to love Mixed Media!

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

Yes, we offer monthly subscriptions. A subscription will guarantee monthly availability of an awesome Mixed Media kit. Each kit will provide a multitude of craft possibilities. Kits may have unique, one-of-a-kind items, exclusive Frog Dog Studio stencils and stamps, and fabulous Mixed Media product.

A subscriber will also receive advance peeks at up-and-coming kits and first dibs on Limited Edition kits. A subscription will automatically renew each month, with a minimum subscription of 3 months.

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

Yes, all kits are available for a one-time purchase option, as long as supplies last.

4) Do you ship internationally?

Yes, effective with new kits shipping July 1st, Frog Dog Studio will ship internationally, to a select group of destinations. Please visit www.frogdogstudio.com for more details.

5) Do you offer add-ons?

Frog Dog Studio does not currently offer the ‘typical’ add-on kit, but offers add-on purchase items for sale in the Frog Dog Studio Shop. Shop Items include a range of basic Mixed Media art supplies to items that supplement your monthly kit. For example, the July kit includes two bottles of Tim Holtz Distress Paint. If you are interested in other Distress Paint colors, the store will carry a limited selection of additional colors. Shop purchases will ship FREE with your monthly kit purchase.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

At Frog Dog Studio, we want to keep our kits fresh, fun, and full of creative expression. Kits may include unique, one-of-a-kind vintage finds, or an Exclusive Frog Dog Studio stencil or stamp set, and will always include an amazing assortment of Mixed Media supplies, such as paint, ink, or spray.

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

I believe that Frog Dog Studio is unique in that we believe in educating and sharing our creative process with all types of Mixed Media and Paper artists, worldwide. I believe we are the first Mixed Media ONLY kit club. Our focus is Mixed Media, not a Mixed Media ‘add-on’ to supplement a Scrapbooking or Paper Crafting kit. Yes, Frog Dog Studio will offer Exclusive Stencils and Stamp Sets.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, Project Lifers, card makers, altered and mixed-media artists?)

Frog Dog Studio’s audience is anyone who wants to create art. We appeal to hardcore Mixed Media artists, to the person who wants to create art, but needs a little help in getting started, to the scrapbooker who loves Mixed Media and wants to incorporate it into their layouts.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

Yes, Frog Dog Studio has a fabulous design team. The design team has a broad range of experience and project expertise. Our team creates amazing art journal pages, to off-the-page projects, to wonderful canvases and wall art. Every week, our design team shares video and photo tutorials on how they created their kit projects and share hints, tips, and how-to’s on the Frog Dog Studio blog. Frog Dog Studio also has a YouTube channel where you can find all of our amazing video tutorials. Here is a project using this month’s kit from design team member Martha Richardson.

Next, let’s meet Lisa Andrews, owner of Scrapbook Circle, and get to know more about her monthly scrapbooking kit.

1) When did you start your kit club? And what made you decide to go into business?

I started Scrapbook Circle back in 2006. I had been scrapbooking for years and loved the concept of creating a kit each month filled with my favorite products to share with others. We are celebrating 7 years of creating, preserving memories, and sharing ideas with others!

2) Do you offer subscriptions? What does a subscription entail?

Our subscription is very low-commitment – just 2 months! The subscription means that you commit to purchase at least two consecutive kits. The benefits of signing up for a subscription are that you get a $5 discount on the kit each month plus you are guaranteed a kit.

3) Do you offer a one-time purchase option?

Yes!  If you just want to purchase one kit, that is an option at checkout.

4) Do you ship internationally?

Absolutely. We ship a large portion of our kits internationally each month. We love our international subscribers!

5) Do you offer add-ons?

Yes, we offer add-ons every month. We always have an embellishment add-on that coordinates with our main kit, in addition to a cardstock add-on. Sometimes we also offer other add-ons like party kits or seasonal kits.

6) What does a typical kit look like (i.e. how many sheets of cardstock? patterned paper? alphabets? embellishments)? Describe it for us.

Each of our kits comes with 8 – 10 sheets of patterned paper. We always include an alphabet and then pack the kit with our favorite embellishments such as stickers, tags, buttons, trims, rub-ons and more.

We carefully place each kit in a sealed plastic bag and ship it in one of our custom-made pizza boxes.

7) What sets you apart from the competition? Do you offer exclusives?

There are a few things that we hope set us apart from others. First is our customer service. We make our subscribers a priority and have the goal every day of treating everyone just as we would want to be treated.

Also, we love offering exclusive Scrapbook Circle products in our kits! Each kit always has a custom, coordinating printable created that is included with each kit. We also offer a variety of exclusive items made just for us in different kits such as stickers, buttons and tags.

8) Do you appeal to a wide range of papercrafters? Who is your audience? (Scrapbookers, Project Lifers, card makers, altered and mixed-media artists?)

We feel like our kits are perfect for all types of papercrafters. Our kits are filled with plenty of product to create a few layouts and then have plenty left for cardmaking or Project Life pages. We include a variety of things each month in the kit with the thought that the products will work for a variety of projects.

9) Do you have a design team? How can subscribers and others find inspiration with your kit?

We have an amazingly talented creative team who share ideas daily on our blog. We also have a creative team ideas page on our site where you can see everything our creative team has created with our kits.

Here is a project from design team member Jill Cornell, using this month’s kit:
